I read so many reviews on these and other on-ear/over-ear headphones and to be honest the aesthetics of these won. There are many bad reviews about the Bluetooth cutting out but I thought I would try it for myself seeing as everybody has a different opinion. After getting them out the box and putting them on, the first thing you can hear is that static sound which is quiet but I find highly irritating (the best way for you to understand what sound I mean is when you record a completely silent audio note in Whatsapp or on Voice Memos on an iPhone). I paired them with my iPhone which was very easy.
I listen to all my music through Spotify so played a song and I was immediately disappointed. The static sound is just there all of the time.
I even thought maybe I had a faulty pair because I couldn't believe that a £400 of headphones with more good reviews than bad would be so bad (my personal opinion). I tried connecting with the lead and turning the Bluetooth off and the static sound doesn't go away.ever.
I paired/used the lead on my Macbook and I did find the sound to be slightly better (no difference between lead or Bluetooth) but still not worth the £400. Compared to my in-ear Nixon £50 5 year old headphones, they just aren't worth the money. Also the Bluetooth really is terrible. It skips a beat if you turn your head (this is whilst paired with my Macbook) and I took a couple of steps across my room and the whole thing disconnected. I didn't have them for long enough to test phone calls etc. I also don't know if I wasn't using the noise cancelling properly but didn't find it to be any more noise cancelling than putting your hands over your ears. With the music on low/medium I can still hear if I click my fingers.
It's only when the music is at it's highest (on an iPhone which actually doesn't play that loud through the headphones) you cannot hear if you were to click your fingers. Again, my in-ear Nixon £50 headphones cancel sound better than these do and they're not even sold as noise cancelling. I kept these headphones for less than 24 hours.
I wish they sounded better because they look amazing and are very comfortable. HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE UPDATE!!!! 12/12/16 OMG!!!!! I just upgraded the firmware and all the bluetooth issues have resolved!!!! Should have done that earlier!!:):):) BTW.
Make sure you have the updated hardware version of the headphones as well - starts from SN: Gray Hazel: serial number 2524849 (w1542), and Argilla Bright: serial number 25120775 (w1543). Rating has gone back up to 4 stars - 1 dropped for high price!! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ORIGINAL REVIEW AND UPDATES BELOW So. I read almost every review that exists before I bought these and now I'll post my short summary. I have always worn IEM's - Shure SE530's, Sennheiser IE8's etc. Also prior to buying these I tried out the Parrot Zik 2's for a couple of weeks. If like me you are used to IEM's then it will initially be a shock trying on, on-ear headphones.
Coach Purse Serial Number Authenticity on this page. The sound no-longer feels like its being pumped into your skull but is more open and surrounds you head more. After getting used to it I much prefer the on-ear (or over ear) sound.
Also the bass through these is much tighter (and heavier) than through either of my IEM's. Overall I really enjoy listening to music through these. I've compared the sound to the Parrot Zik 2's and in all honestly its not as big a difference as one would think but you do have to play around with the app on the Zik's before they sound good. But these look much much better and just feel better on the ears (even though they are on-ear and the Zik's were over ear). I wear glasses btw and have a normal size head and find them completely comfortable for extended period of wear. The Zik's ANC was much better though.
The H8's ANC is okay but not amazing. With music on though it doesn't really make too big a difference. The difference though is in sound quality.
With the Zik's I didn't feel there was much degradation in sound with the ANC on but with the H8's there definitely is a hit and if possible I listen to them with ANC off. I did have a couple of issues with the Zik's which was their ridusously poor battery life and the fact that they sounded awful when wired up and turned off. The H8's sound there best in my opinion when wired up and with the power turned off. If you use the provided cable the sound really does improve and so to get the best sound out of these you would turn off ANC and use the cable but they are primarily bluetooth headphones and work very well without the cable.
I've had no problems with them and have even used them in the gym with no weird audio issues that some have been reporting with ANC on and off. Others have mentioned problems with bluetooth connections and although I have had no issues when its connected to my iphone 6 plus, I did have issues with my Macbook pro 15' 2011.
The sound kept stuttering. Luckily I had a bluetooth 4.0 dongle lying around and using that the stuttering has resolved. There are a couple of issues.range is not that great (doesn't go through walls very well) and they are quite expensive. In this price range there are plenty of wired headsets you could get but then the whole point is to be free of wires.
The only other headphones that seem to be comparable are the Sennheiser Momentum 2 wireless, but I was unable to find a pair anywhere in London to try them out, so can't really make a comparison. Overall I am really pleased with the H8's and will definitely be keeping them. Fabulatech Usb Over Network Keygenguru there. On top of that they come with a 2-3 year warranty and if repairs etc are needed there are plenty of stores around the country/world which for such an expensive item is good to have. I know some have not been happy but if you can afford these I'm sure you won't really have many regrets.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Edit 01/01/16: After my initial review I started noticing more and more drop out issues and had put it down to just general bluetooth issues until I bought a £40 part of Plantronics for the gym. These have absolutely no bluetooth issues and cost 10 times less. I contacted B&O who paid for a courier to come collect the H8's and are currently assessing them for faults.I'll keep you all updated. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Update 08/01/16: Brilliant customer service from B&O who have sent me a brand new pair.
Will test over the next few weeks to see if these are any better with the bluetooth connection. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Update 19/05/16: Bluetooth issue still persists. If I out my hand over my iPhone I can get the connection to cut out.
Also the headphones don't connect automatically all the time. These are not deal breakers but I as mentioned above I have seen a more solid and longer ranged bluetooth connection with cheaper headphones which is a shame for such an expensive product. For this reason I am dropping one star from 4 to 3. On a more positive note, I've now used it in on a few flights and the noise cancellation works brilliantly. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ HUGE UPDATE!!!! 12/12/16 I just upgraded the firmware and all the bluetooth issues have resolved!!!! Should have done that earlier.
Make sure you have the updated hardware version of the headphones - starts from SN: Gray Hazel: serial number 2524849 (w1542), and Argilla Bright: serial number 25120775 (w1543). Style and build: These headphones are just as good looking as they are in pictures, even better in real life.
I recommend the classical everlasting design. Aluminum is nicely finished and headphones have a robust feeling to them. Sound: Sound is very balanced and overall nice to listen to no matter if you are plugged in or using bluetooth. That is a huge plus! I like to listen reference quality headphones when in home. Of course H8's are not on the same level, but they sound very very good for small closed cans and are very easy to use! Like I said, even the bluetooth sounds really good.
There is advanced technology inside! The touch controls make everything so easy and they really work! I wish touch control would work with Siri tough.
Active noice cancellation works very well when it works. My headphones seem to have a hardware error there. But what I can say about the noise cancellation. It changes the way music is played, requires less volume and really cancels out all the train, car or airplane humming sounds. It is not able to cancel speaking or high noises.
So ANC works just like on all the other about the same prize headphones too! Minus star: My headphones have a malfunction. Right out of the box the left cup would make a squealing sound when ANC was on and ear hit the inside microphone or I held them in my hands. This has been reduced almost to none by reassembling the earpillow, but still happens from time to time if something hits inside the cup. There hasnt ever been same thing with the right cup. Other malfunction on the ANC on the left cup is that it is too sensible. I mean it tries to correct too much!
When someone closes a door and air pressure changes left cup will go *boom* while the right one just takes out the sound. If there is vibration the left cup reacts to all these little bumps the same way. Right doesn't react and plays as it should!
I think there is a hardware mistake on my pair. Otherwise five star product.
Waiting to return my pair and get a new one. Cant do it thorough amazon tough. I don't know how to refund:o. These are expensive but worth it.
Build quality is high, they are comfortable to wear for long periods and they sit neatly on the ears and do not stick out as some over ear phones can. As for the sound quality, this is excellent both by Bluetooth and by lead. I decided to wear them on a long haul flight to test the noise cancelling mode, and found it very effective at blocking engine noise.
Volume levels are fine, the controls on the right earphone are easy. The only criticism is the lack of a hard carrying case to protect these valuable phones whilst travelling. I bought one separately which works fine although it is fairly large.
I wouldn't trust the supplied soft bag to protect in transit. I took a while to decide on these after testing a few and am very pleased. Firstly, the sound quality is incredible. Ive tried headphones and earphones from a number of manufacturers, but I haven't heard anything even remotely approaching the quality that these beauties kick out. They sound great with or without the noise cancelling turned on and the ANC works brilliantly at blocking out unwanted noises, although as stated by others, there is a slight 'hiss' when the ANC is turned on. The headphones themselves are stunningly high quality. The leather is well stitched and looks and feels great.
The aluminium ear cups are great to look at and ultra responsive on the touch controls. The actual headband is perhaps a little uncomfortable at first, but it seems to be softening with use.
The big problem that lets these headphones down is the Bluetooth. I have a B&O Beoplay A2 speaker and have no issues whatsoever with streaming my music to that without the sound cutting out, or any kind of interference.
As such, I know the problem does not lie with my phone, which supports both Bluetooth 4.0 and AptX. The sound cuts out A LOT. Sometimes the stuttering and interference is so bad that it is basically unusable. Id like to say that the issue is only when you are surrounded by other sources of interference, but I get the problem just as bad when Im out walking in the middle of a field. I have a set of Bluetooth earphones that I use for the gym, that have no such problems with interference or stuttering in the same locations or situations.
The Bluetooth just isn't up to standard, which for a set of headphones at this price, simply isn't acceptable. Luckily the headphones can be used with a cable as well, which is the only reason I am able to recommend these headphones at all. To summarise: The sound and build quality of these headphones is simply unmatched. However the Bluetooth reliability is extremely poor. Having weighed up the competition and doing some serious research I took the plunge and I have to say they are amazing, the sound quality is deep & rich, but please bear in mind that any headphone will only be as good as the original source and Bluetooth does have its limitations, having said that, if you encode your music at the highest bitrate you won't be disappointed. The only criticism I do have is the cloth storage bag that is supplied, they deserve to kept in something more substantial which is why I can highly recommend GOcase f2 carry case, which despite coming in just short of £50 they do the job admirably.
It has such a finesse in the design, a vibrant and accurate sound, also a good versatility of use given the noise cancellation feature (airplane, train, etc.) It was easy to learn the few commands all positioned on the right side of the headphone. The bluetooth of my laptop was not fast enough to send sound as it is designed for mouse/keyboard data. I found on the Beoplay blog the solution, and I equipped myself with a little USB dongle (external bluetooth transmitter) and now I can receive the sound also from my laptop.
As expected the top sound accuracy is however achieved when you use the included cable.
