Epoxy Grout Installers Sydney
Hi, have any use them to fix leaking shower? Do they work?
We just bought a house with a leaking shower, shower is all tiled and there are gaps inbetween the wall tiles and the shower base tiles ( can stuck a knife into the gaps). We got a few option as below: A.
$1500 to replace wall tiles and waterproofing shower area B. $3000 to do up the shower including wall and base tiling and new shower screen C. To do the megaseal thingy ( someone will come next week to give me a quote ) Actually the whole bathroom need to be renovated, it will take us at least 18 months to save up enough money to do it. ATM i don't want to spend more than 3k in the bathroom. We can use the bath tub until then but prefer a working shower. What should we do?
Nice tiling work can be destroyed with bad grouting as cheap grout can go dirty easily and also stain. Go with epoxy grout as it will never stain, cleans easily and your new tiling work will still look new in 10 years. Although doing this might cost more, your tiling work with epoxy grout will outstand any other kind of flooring and. Thanks for reply, forget to mention bathroom is 34yrs old, and the shower seems has been leaking for a long long time. I do bathroom renos for a living, don't waste your money on Megaseal, you can do as good a job yourself in a few hours.
Showers invariably leak at junctions in walls and between walls and floors, but inspect the grout in the wall and floor tiles anyway before you start, if there's any missing it's simple to patch. The quickest way to clean up the junctions is a 4' grinder with a diamond blade, a multitool is great as well. Anyway, get as much old grout and gunk out of the wall/floor junction and corner of the two walls as you can then wash it thoroughly with chlorine bleach. The critical bit is that it must be bone dry before you seal it, use a hair dryer or run a fan in the shower for a few hours, a compressor with an air duster attachment is even better but not everyone has one handy. When it's completely dry fill the joint with silicone, Davco make a wide variety of colours to match the grout which are available at tile shops, clean any excess silicone up with turps. Leave it 24 hours before you use it.
The above isn't a permanent fix but you said you didn't have the cash to do it properly, if the shower has been leaking for any length of time there will be damage to the wall frame. The room will eventually need to stripped and damaged framing replaced, then relined, a suitable membrane applied to the wall and floor then finally retiled, but save the money you would spend on Megaseal and put it towards a permanent solution.
I would consider a DIY job to get you by, then spend the money on a full reno. Unless any leak is causing damage to areas that are not easy to repair I would just aim to seal it well – by doing what was mentioned earlier + maybe a paint on sealer over the top of all tiles etc. A nasty DIY job may be just to clean it up then fill gaps with a big fat bead of silicone. We had a bathroom that did drip through the floorboards into the garage for about 4 years – no damage to speak of as ti was only a small leak and the house was good old hardwood. Now all redone – was a $18K bathroom job tiled to the ceiling on all walls, custom vanity with solid huon pine top etc. When you redo the bathroom – just gut it, pull off the wall linings – beware of asbestos, and floor coverings, again beware asbestos and start again from the wall studs (or replace them if required). I used Megasealed when we had a leak in our shower.
Water was traveling on top of the membrane but under the tiles to a point where the supporting frame for the spa had been nailed through the membrane! Causing water to drip into the ceiling below. Megasealed cost about $750 from memory which was much cheaper than a tiler who quoted about $2K to replace tiles ('oh and the tiles won't match'). The guy who quoted from Megasealed was very good as was the tradesman who did the work.
They replaced the grout in the floor (my choice of colour) and gave a 15 year warranty. Megasealed is a franchise system so I guess it may depend a bit on the franchisee, but if you do have a problem you could escalate back to head office. Just wanting to provide feedback for future reference. We recently used DiaOseal over Megasealed after doing our research and coming across them on this thread. DialOseal's standard service was $550 inc.
GST and comes with a 12 year warranty. We went with their new EGS Solution ($745 inc. GST) service which is suppose to be comparative with Megasealed's service (quoted approx $800). Both come with a 25yr product warranty. DialOseal's fixed pricing made it more convenient to make a decision and limit the time required in having to arrange visits/quotations so worked better for us because we knew the whole shower needed refurbishing.
For more minor jobs Megasealed may be more suitable as they do quotations? However, when it comes to showers I assume most people usually want to do the whole lot? Depends on your situation. So far so good.
Am happy with the quality of workmanship. Would recommend again from our experiences. Megasealed is a franchise system so I guess it may depend a bit on the franchisee, but if you do have a problem you could escalate back to head office. Yeah, exactly – the same can be said for all franchises. I know a real estate agent who works in an office managing hundreds of rental properties.
They love Megasealed and use them frequently. At the risk of the thread veering off-topic, when a real-estate agent gets a complaint from a tenant about a fault with a property they really don't care about cost or even quality. They basically just want the problem fixed ASAP so it goes away. With so many problems with leaky showers (1 in 3 showers leak, apparently), from an agent's point of view Megasealed are awesome because they fix the problem very quickly and they do seem to work. They offer a long-term guarantee as well, which offers reassurance to the owner. Personally – if it was my own shower – I would want to identify the root cause of the problem, whether it's a problem with plumbing, tiling, waterproofing membrane and so on.
But that would be expensive and time consuming and may lead to bills in the thousands. My friend said they've used Megasealed for hundreds of showers and so far they've had no problems with them – but I do agree with Milko that individual franchises will vary. I bought a property that had recently had the showers resealed by Megasealed as the bld report found leaks. After a few months I checked out under the house and found the shower still leaking. Since then Megasealed have been back twice to fix it and i'm mid way through a 3rd call out to make more repairs. So far they've been very good with organising repairs but the problem is they have only lasted 2months before the leak starts again. No that's not necessarily Megasealed's fault as the house is 30yrs old and may have some movement in it which is causing the problem and they may also be the result of a poorly done reno some years ago.
But as said above before getting them to do your reseal I would make 99% sure it will fix the issue. If the leak is caused by something other then just dodgy/old sealant (foundations moving, poor design etc) then it will likely be a temporary fix and you might be on the phone to them more often then not. Hi, a bit late but here's my 2 bob's worth. We just had our shower 'megasealed' after a failed membrane allowed water into the wall cavity ruining ½ the wall and a room full of carpet (hidden by a filing cabinet). The house is 6 ½ yrs old and just out of builders warranty. The initial visit took 2 ½ hrs and cost 850 dollars.bargain.for them.
They were meant to remove all the old grout per their quote. I could see quite obviously they hadn't as old yellowing grout still existed in places. Called them back.' Terribly sorry, must of missed that bit'.
Yeah right.finally got the new screen in as a 'tart-up' as we are selling. First shower. Waterleaking out the wall on the other side. The so-called epoxy that was 'injected' didn't 'take'.
Was mixed wrongly would be my guess as is hard and brittle. I could see this coming as there was no 'injecting' just a smear over the floor-to-wall joints and certainly nothing oozing out the other side of the wall as the rotted timber and Gyprock has not been refitted. Call them back.excuse.excuse blah blah. Doing it again.
3 months later still had only the one shower.starting to get a bit smelly round the arm pits. Probably should use the other shower.
Home insurance covers next to nothing in an occurence like this, so to save money and time and get the 10yr warranty certificate to sell the place we chose this road. I could not recommend this company based on our experience.
Autism Diagnostic Interview-revised Adi-r Pdf. In principle the technique may work in the hands of a skilled tradesman but we got a Bozo who just couldn't cut it. All too common in the building game I guess. Good luck to those who choose this course of action.you have been warned. I have worked in the Tiling trade as a Tiler for more than 12 years. I've yet to become qualified.
Motor Mechanics was my initial trade. The Megasealed franchises often/frequently crave Tilers via their jobs ads: Thankfully, most capable Tilers, see ineptitude for the bodgy rort that it is. If somebody has an unsealed problem due/pertaining to tiles. Then a coat over it is only ever going to be merely that imo.
Yes: They may well 'guarantee' their work. Methinks they'd likely spend more on insurance than what they'd make in profits. I used DiaOseal three years ago to fix two showers.
The epoxy which seals the floor and wall tiles separated leaving a gap in the ensuite shower a year later. Took about a month but they finally came out and fixed it. 3 years later, same problem. I have emailed and called leaving voice messages and still no reply after two months. Water has now seeped through the gap and caused water damage to my ensuite entry door frame.
I had a similar experience with Diaoseal. I suspect a lot of their positive reviews online are fabricated – very poor customer service. Booked an appointment for them to come out to seal my shower and they didn't even show up, and never bothered answering the phone despite me trying 10 times in the next 3 days.
They have a '25 year warranty on workmanship' but it's not worth the paper it's written on clearly. To respond to the above post, I tried booking Trent twice for an appointment. The first time my property was tenanted, he called the tenants and left a voicemail – but once the tenants came back with a time that worked he never responded. The second time, 2 months later when the property was vacated, I didn't think any better of it and tried him again. Agreed on a time in the morning before I had to go to work. I showed up at my property and waited for a good hour and called several times and received no response. I called again multiple times over the following days and again received no answer.
In my humble opinion, with there being so many people prepared to do the work in this industry, someone who wants your business will make more of an effort to look after their (prospective) customers and not muck them around. I can only state my experience however and I note that I'm not the only one who has reported having these difficulties with DiaOseal. In reply to prospective customer comment. DiaOseal offers fixed price services, illustrated and detailed throughout many forms of media with pricing for all works indicated and stated as fixed price. During your initial enquiry we ask you about the condition of the shower for example; Are there any loose or missing tiles? Is their any squelching from water trapped under the tiles? Is their any evident cracks within the shower floor area?
Introduction To Botany Nabors Ebook. Does any water leakage from the shower continue after a period of time after you stop using the shower? These question enable us assess if your shower is suitable for our service! If the answer is No to the above questions then it is a simple case of booking a fixed price service eliminating inconvenient onsite inspections and quotations.
In response to 'make more of an effort to look after Prospective customers' Tire kickers are a waste of time and resources and turn a simple repair service into a saga of which I admit I have no time for. One upset tire kicker out of 78856 nationwide happy and satisfied clients speaks for itself and the fact we and I do not need to hide behind a handle speaks volumes again. In reply to the last comment above, there's is always 2 sides to a story for example in GREENHULKS situation. I returned to his premises for a service call where it was clearly outside our terms of warranty and rectified whilst on site free of charge going above and beyond. It's situations like these that lead to positive feedback not fabricated ones as suggested by Dingleberry. So for a fast efficient cost effective alternative to rejuvenating and resealing your deteriorated or leaking shower call DiaOseal Australia or myself Trent on and book your EGS fixed price service for $745.00 Inc GST Today!
I have recently used megasealed to reseal our main bathroom & ensuite. The finished product appears good & the initial visit from the local franchisee on Qlds Sunshine Coast was good. After a couple of weeks we experienced our main bathroom leaking into the wall again.
I sent an email advising of the issue and after a week of waiting I had to contact them to see what was going on. After another week the local franchisee came out & repaired a cracked tile missed during the first repair. He also applied a bead of silicon to the corner of the shower where the leak was coming from. The shower hasn't leaked for the past 2 weeks. My concern is, if the silicon fails (which it is bound to do over time) & the shower leaks again, where does that leave me with the warranty Megasealed offers as it doesn't cover silicon?
I have written to them twice over the last 2 weeks & called once & was promised a call back from the office manager but they are not responding to my query. I am asking if they will honor their warranty if the silicon fails & repair damage to my wall. My advice to others looking to use megasealled based on my experience, is do so with caution. They were very quick to take my $1500, but looks like if you have any questions or follow up work, they don't want to know you.
Just want to add my 2 cents, From what I’ve experienced with is that it works. My shower leak was clearly an issue with the grout on the perimeter and hence the megasealed service (which cost me $750) worked like a charm and to date I have had no leak reoccurrence. It would seem that there’s a lot that can go wrong and that diagnosis is the key as to whether a megasealed service is right for your leaking shower issue. Graham my consultant said they have been doing it for 20 years. Yes I suspect there have been a number of bad jobs as it happens in any large company.
You don’t last that long if it’s a scam let alone the dozens of other smaller competitors doing the exact same service. I am happy to recommend as it’s cheaper than a rewaterproof and retile.
